Obituary
Jefferson Twp.: William "Bill" Bates passed away on July 25, 2023 at Newton Medical Center. He was 89 years of age.
Bill was born in Jefferson Twp. and lived his entire life in the Lower Berkshire Valley section of Jefferson Twp. He served in the National Guard for 20 years. He worked as a Meter Specialist for JCP&L for 41 years and was a lifetime member of the Berkshire Valley Presbyterian Church.
He was predeceased by 2 daughters; Joanne Bates-Clayton and Cathy Bates-Gibbs, grandson Charles Sipley IV and siblings; Raymond, Patty Thompson, Charles, Donald, Rita Estler, John, Margaret Bostedo, Betty Haycock and Eileen Bates.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years Josephine Bates, daughter Bonnie Bates-Mangan and her husband Allan, son-in-law Gary Gibbs, 5 granddaughters; Melissa, Katie, Brittany, Shannon and Ashley, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren, siblings; Gerald Bates, Daniel Bates Jr., Jane Kish, Muriel Thompson and Joan Fogg and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 2-5pm on Sunday July 30 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton. A Funeral Service will be held 10am on Monday at the Berkshire Valley Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
