Violet Zimlinghaus, 89, of Lake Hopatcong NJ passed away after a short illness on December 27, 2021.
Violet, “Vi” was born and raised in South Dakota where she attended a one room schoolhouse and eventually received her nursing degree. After graduating from nurses training, she and some fellow RN’s traveled the country as perhaps the predecessors of ‘travelling nurses’ until she arrived in California where she met her future husband, William Zimlinghaus who was stationed there in the Navy. Together they returned to New Jersey and built their home on the shores of Lake Hopatcong. Violet worked in the operating room at Valley hospital in Fairlawn, NJ and later at a doctor’s office in Lake Hopatcong, but her favorite job in which she spent the most time was the public health nurse for Jefferson Township.
Violet loved to play cards, games, and spend time at the lake riding on her wave runner, sailing, and waterskiing. She spent time this past summer visiting her brothers, sisters and extended family in her home state of South Dakota. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Violet is predeceased by her husband, William and is survived by two children: William Jr. and Nancy (Randall) FitzGerald and two grandchildren; Michael and Claire.
Visitation will be held 9-10:30am, on Friday December 31, at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30am at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Totowa.
