Vanda Wu Obituary

Vanda Wu, beloved wife of Joseph Wu, recently passed away from a brief illness in St. Clare Hospital in Dover, NJ.  Vanda was born in Fujian province in China. Her parents fled from China to Hong Kong when China was taken over by the Communist Chinese.  Vanda obtained her high school diploma in Hong Kong and then enrolled into The University of Texas at Austin.  She studied mathematics, accounting, and computer science ultimately graduating cum laude with an accounting degree.   While in school in Texas she met Joseph Wu, an engineering student at Texas A&M University. They married in 1974 and moved to New Jersey.

Soon after having children, Vanda and Joe would move with their young family, this time to Saudi Arabia.  Vanda found employment with the Middle East Division. This would be the beginning of an almost forty year career as an accountant for the US Army. She was recognized for her highly effective performance and received many commendations and awards.

After five years of living overseas, Vanda returned to Wharton, New Jersey.  Until her retirement, Vanda was employed as a military accountant with the Army's Armaments Research Development and Engineering Center. Vanda is remembered by her management and fellow accountants as an exceptional accounting professional.

Vanda is remembered for the unconditional love she gave to her family, her generosity, her love of learning, and her kindness. Vanda's ability to notice her children and grandchildens' interests led her to carefully select books and toys that nurtured their interests. She generously purchased musical instruments for her children and grandchildren. Her affectionate words of praise for her children and grandchildren are treasured gifts.  Vanda's love for her family was unconditionally given and a force of nature.  Her love is immutable and indisputable.

The humble and gentle way that Vanda lived her life was demonstrated even during her last days. Even after learning of her illness, Vanda was more concerned with the health of her family and the hospital staff that attended her, and spent the hours she had giving joy through words of thankfulness, praise, advice, and encouragement to her family and friends.  In death as in life, Vanda lived a life of grace, humility, service, and tremendous love. She will always be remembered for her gentleness, kindness, a ready smile, and her deep love of her husband, children and grandchildren

Vanda is survived by her husband, her son, daughter, Felicia, grandson, granddaughter, sister and her son and his family in Hong Kong, and her brother, her sister-in-law, and her brother's two sons and daughter.  The sons and their spouses have two daughters and two sons.
