Sandra Berta Obituary

Sandra Evelyn Berta (nee Sisco) of Wharton, passed away on Friday October 22, 2021, after a short illness.  Born in Newark NJ on September 14, 1943, she was a young 78 years old.

Sandy lived in numerous places as a child but spent her teenage years in Lake Hiawatha NJ and attended Parsippany High School.  She worked several jobs including Rutgers and Union Carbide.  She chose to make Wharton her home in her beloved pink house where she raised her family as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Sandy’s entire life was dedicated to volunteering. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  She was a driver for F.I.S.H, and she worked at the Morristown NJ Family History Center.  She enjoyed working on her genealogy and family history.  Family was very important to Sandy and every summer she organized a family reunion barbeque.  Her crafting skills, which were many, helped her raise money for various charities with her works of art.

Sandy was a wonderful storyteller, especially about the times of her youth.  She was an avid gardener and loved flowers. In her golden years she enjoyed going out to eat… For any meal.  She loved her soup, her Dr. Pepper, her cherry dipped DQ cones and her whipped cream cakes.  Shopping was her passion, always buying gifts for others.  Sandy loved animals and had quite the menagerie of pets including a rat, a monkey, a parrot, a rabbit and several dogs.  She was famous for her pignoli cookies. She will always be remembered for her Christmas brunches where anyone and everyone was invited, but mostly she will be remembered for her compassion and her smile.

Predeceased by her parents, Howard and Evelyn Sisco (nee Beet), her sister René Baldwin and her nephew, Joseph Baldwin.

Survived by her husband of 48 years, Ronald “Red” Berta, whom she met when he came to fix her broken house phone for Bell Telephone.  Her children, Michael and his wife Yvette, Lisa Chaney and her husband Craig, Phillip and his wife Dawn, and Jodie Parker and her husband Jerry.  Beloved grandchildren, Rachel Giordano and her husband Jay, Derek Berta and his wife Samantha, Sean Berta and his wife Le Anne, Kelsey Berta, Nicole Trail, Matthew Trail and his wife Juliana, and Ryan Berta.  Four great granddaughters, Paisley, Kenzie, Elsie, and Oaklee. Her sister, Glen Turner and her husband Terrence, her brother Dr. Howard “Chip” Sisco and his wife Robin and her brother in-law George Baldwin. Plus, many nieces, nephews and friends around the country.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main Street, Wharton NJ 07885 on Friday October 29, 2021, from 5:00PM – 8:00PM to honor Sandy’s life.  Services will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at 10:00 AM.  Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Randolph NJ.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Autism Speaks and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.  Two charities close to Sandy’s heart.
