Sal Dattolo

Mine Hill:  Sal Dattolo passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side.  He was 83 years of age.

Sal was born in Alcamo, Sicily and immigrated to the US in 1965 to Rockaway, NJ.  He lived in Parsippany and Landing before moving to Mine Hill 23 years ago.

Mr. Dattolo was the founder of Joe’s Pizzeria of Caldwell in 1967 and operated it until 1986.  He then was the owner of Lakeside Pizzeria before retiring in 1998.

Even after retiring he continued to make the dough every day at his brother pizzeria, Roma Pizzeria in Boonton.  After making the dough he always spent his afternoons drinking coffee and spending time at the pizzeria with his brothers and friends.  He was so proud of his garden and fig trees.  He loved boxing and wrestling and never missed an episode of Jerry Springer or Judge Judy where he learned and always told us to “make sure you get your receipts!”   He loved watching his grandson and granddaughters play sports and was a fixture at their games.

Sal is predeceased by his parents, Filippo and Vincenza and his brother Antonino Dattolo.

He is survived by his wife, Franca of 56 years. His sons, Philip and Grace,  Angelo and his wife, Christy and Michael, along with his grandchildren Donny, Marissa and Julianna.

He is also survived by his brother Paul and his wife Mimma, his brother Pasquale and his wife Connie, Sister in Law, Anna Dattolo, nieces Enza, Christine, nephews Philip Paul and Scott, grandniece, Courtney and grandnephew , Paulie along with so many other nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 2-6pm on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton.

A funeral mass will be held 10am on Monday at St. Mary’s RC Church, Dover.

Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, E. Hanover.
