Wharton: Roy Norton Kaufmann of Wharton, New Jersey passed away peacefully at home on September 25, 2023. His life was grounded on three pillars – family, God and country.
Roy was born in Oceanside, CA on April 23, 1952, to Anna May (Naylor) and Roy Kaufmann. He spent a few happy childhood years in Spring Lake, NJ and he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1969 and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1978.
Roy’s lifelong passion was being a Firefighter, both as a volunteer for the Wharton Fire Department and as an employed Firefighter/EMT at Morristown Airport. He loved skiing and shooting sports.
Roy is survived by the love of his life, his wife Kristine Anker-Kaufmann and their three children of whom he was very proud. Jennifer Anne Kaufmann (33) and partner Michael Te-Djane of Newark, NJ, Michael Patrick Norton Kaufmann (28) and Elizabeth Marion Kaufmann (22), both of Wharton, NJ.
Roy, the eldest son, is also survived by his six siblings. Christine and Frederick (Rick) Hammitt of Madison, NJ; Anna May Donnelly of San Francisco, CA; Francis Bret and Theresa (Teri) Kaufmann of Spring Lake, NJ; Clare and Peter Fittin of Wall, NJ; George Kaufmann of Dunellen, FL; and Mary Jean and John Gerry of Budd Lake, NJ. And his sister-in-law and brother-in law Kathleen and James (Jim) Farrell of Flemington, NJ.
Roy (Pop Pop) is also survived by his granddaughter Madeline June Te-Djane and his many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Roy was loved in life and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. We ask that his memory be honored by requesting that you spend time enjoying life to the fullest with your loved ones.
Visitation will be held 11am to 2pm on Sunday, October 1, 2023 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 South Main St, Wharton, NJ 07885
A funeral service will be held 2pm at the funeral home, after the visitation with a fireman service at 1:30pm.
