Rockaway Twp: Roy R. Claps, beloved husband, father and grandfather, aged 73, passed away on October 1, 2022, surrounded by his family after a long battle with Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia.
Born in the Bronx to Lou and Bianca (Colella) Claps, he grew up in River Edge, graduating from Bergen Catholic and earning a B.A. in Economics from Rutgers College and a J.D. from Rutgers Law School. He practiced law as a partner in Pennella & Claps in Dover for 39 years and was a proud member of the Morris County Bar Association.
A long-time resident of Randolph, he served on the Township Board of Adjustment and coached his daughters’ youth softball teams. He was a founding member of St. Matthew the Apostle Parish, serving on the Finance Committee and as an usher. Past president of the Randolph Rotary he was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow and named Rotarian of the Year in 2018.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, JoAnn D. Claps, daughters Alexandra (Alexander Meseguer) and Elizabeth, grandchildren Josephine and Alessandro Meseguer, sister Rosanne T. Lombardo (Jerome) and many nephews and their children. He was predeceased by his brother, Steven.
Family and friends are invited to visit 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Matthew the Apostle Parish, 335 Dover Chester Road, Randolph on Thursday, October 6 at 10:30am. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Chester.
