Jefferson Township: Roger David Thompson passed away peacefully at the age of 78 on Saturday April 27, 2024 at Morristown Medical Center surrounded by his family. Born to Julie and William Thompson on November 11, 1945 he was raised along with his two sisters and brother in Northern NJ, but lived most of his life in Jefferson Township NJ. He was a cherished husband to Muriel Thompson for 51 years a wonderful Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. He was adored by all of his family.
Roger was a graduate of Newton High School class of 1964 where his strongest subject was Shop which became his trade during his employment with Rowe International for over 15 years, and Heisler Industries where he eventually retired. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time on the river and lakes of NJ fishing, and in the woods hunting. He and his wife took several memorable trips to Alaska fishing, and also traveled to Newfoundland hunting big game. Roger was a quiet man who had a depth of knowledge, but would only share it with the few that appreciated it. He had a sharp sense of humor and wit and always had a twinkle in his eye.
Roger is survived by his loving wife Muriel Thompson and two sisters Julie and Jean. His three children Donna Apgar and husband John Apgar, Barbara Ryan, and Brook Thompson and wife Jessica Thompson. As well as his eight grandchildren Christopher, Nicole, Kelly, Andrew, Sarah, Luke, Myles and Nathan, and his great grandchildren Joshua, Madeline, Chase, Teagan, Carter, Connor and Violet.
Visitation will be held 4pm to 6pm on Friday, May 3rd, 2024 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton.
A memorial service will be held 10am on Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of Berkshire Valley, 635 Berkshire Valley Road, Wharton, NJ 07885.
