Wharton: Rodney “Rod” Howarth passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022 at St. Clare’s Hospital/Denville. He was 76 years of age.
Rod was born in Orange, NJ and was raised in Short Hills, NJ before settling in Wharton about 1969.
Mr. Howarth was a Communications Technician for AT&T for 29 years before retiring in 1999. He later started his own company, a Freon removal service, retiring in 2021 after 10 years of operation.
He was the past Master of the Lodge in 1976 of the St. John’s Lodge#1 (F&AM) in Mt. Lakes, NJ. He was an EMT for 30 years as well as the past President of the Wharton First Aid Squad, until it dissolved and he was a member of the Battle of the Bulge Association. Rod was an outdoorsman and was also a member of the NRA.
He was an avid NASCAR fan and also held his private pilot’s license.
Predeceased by his parents, Alexander J. and Margaret (née Proctor).
Survived by his wife Sandra of 52 years.
Two daughters: Amy Graziano and husband Cliff of East Stroudsburg, PA.
Cindy Dudas and husband Pete of Little Egg Harbor.
Four Grandchildren: Alyssa & Nick Graziano
Bridget & Alex Dudas.
Brother-In-Law: Terry Lineman of Lewis Run, PA.
Cousin: Felice Proctor of Blacksburg, VA.
Visitation will be held 9am – 12 Noon on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton.
A funeral service will be held 12 Noon also at the funeral home after the visitation.
Interment will be private.
