Wharton: Robert E. Wilhelm, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2023. He was 89 years of age. Robert was born and raised in Randolph and lived in Wharton and the surrounding area. He is a Korean War Veteran, serving in the US Army Airborne in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He worked as a salesman for the American Tobacco Company in Newark for many years.
Robert and his family were avid travelers, visiting more that 40 of the 50 states. His favorite hobby was owning horses for many years. Out of this, he became the Scarlet Knight mascot for Morris Hills High School riding his beloved horse, Randy, at football games during the 1970’s.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years Bernice Wilhelm (neé Nametko), daughter Linda Magistro and her husband Peter, 3 grandchildren; Peter Jr. and his wife Nicole, David and his wife Andrea, Timothy and his fiancé Madison, and his 3 great-grandchildren; William, Goldie and Owen.
A Mass will take place 10am on Tuesday January 17, at St. Mary's Church in Wharton. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Mine Hill.
