Flanders, New Jersey: The immediate family of Robert James O'Rourke is saddened to announce his passing on October 5th at his home in Flanders, New Jersey, with his shore house in mind.
Robert was born in Trenton, NJ and soon after high school, he joined the United States Air Force. He was a retired Master Sergeant, retiring in 2003 after 21 years of service. After the full military career, he departed from Spain and worked on the supervision side of the World Cup of Golf. He completed the law enforcement academy in California. After that, he started working on the business side of a sport that he had loved for his entire life. He became a strong leader from the client and team side mentoring his younger generation of staff while always making a significant positive impact on their lives. As Regional Manager, he still remained humble and could grill one of the best hotdogs served at the Tiki!
Rob had an immense amount of love for his extended Kentucky family fulfilling the role of brother and son. He also loved spending his days with his dog, Dixie. Also sharing a love for the Barnegat Bay. He would spend days boating, fishing, entertaining, relaxing, and just spending time with his neighbors that turned into his weekend family.
He is survived by his Life's Love, Shawn Sheffer of Flanders, New Jersey. Two children, Kailan Aldridge (Alex Aldridge) of Louisville, Kentucky and Dixie Sheffer-O'Rourke of Flanders, New Jersey. Two sisters and one brother, Maureen O'Rourke (Dr. Mark Smith) of Ringoes, New Jersey, Kelly O'Rourke-Kosko (Thomas Kosko) of Yardley, PA. Raymond O'Rourke of Sydney, New York. Eight nieces and nephews, Shannon, Emily, Connor, Sean, Cate, Kevin, Liam, and Delaney.
Rob was the son of the late Raymond F. & Elma G O'Rourke of Ewing, New Jersey.
He is preceded into death by Patricia Smires, Michael O'Rourke, and Alan Sheffer
Rob's passing will leave a huge hole in the hearts of those that he allowed into his personal space.
Visitation will be held 4-8pm on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton, NJ 07885.
A military funeral will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
