Wharton: Peter F Cerenzio, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, January 18, 2022, surrounded by family at his home. He was 74 years of age.
Pete was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, before settling in Wharton, NJ in 1977, where he remained for the remainder of his life.
He was a graduate of The City College of NY, where he received his bachelor’s degree, as well as a master’s degree in Sanitary Engineering. In May of 1977, he would become the first Executive Director and Founding Father, of the (SCMUA) Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority.
Peter guided the SCMUA through its initial years with regard to waste water management planning, eventually culminating in the design, construction and operation of the Upper Wallkill Regional Water Pollution Control Facilities.
In 1983 Peter would partner with Glenn Panaro to form their own company, Cerenzio & Panaro, Consulting Engineers.
Under Pete’s guidance, C&P would continue to provide professional services to the SCMUA for the next 30 years, until his retirement.
Peter was a beloved member of his community, donating his time as a coach for the Wharton Wolves Soccer Club, and Wharton Little League baseball. He was an avid fisherman, and bowler, earning a PBA membership, and rolling multiple 300 games.
Survived by his loving wife Mary, of 50 Years

Funeral service: 10:00am, Monday January 24, 2022, at Saint Mary’s Church, 425 West Blackwell Street, Dover, NJ
