Roxbury Twp: Nancy R. Allen, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, passed away at Auburn Hill Senior Living, surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, November 25, 2021. She was 88 years of age.
Nancy was born on June 25, 1933 in Lackawanna County, Scranton, PA, where she was raised and received her diploma in Bookkeeping-Stenographic course of study from the Technical High School of Scranton. Nancy married her husband of fifty-five years Robert W. Allen, Sr. in 1955. Afterwards they moved to NJ where they purchased a home in the Shore Hills development of Landing, NJ, where she raised her two sons.
Nancy spent a large part of her working career as a bookkeeper for the Roxbury Medical Group and concluded working for Dr. Sundaram. However, even in retirement, Nancy continued her strong work ethic whether working in the yard, crocheting mittens for her sister’s kindergarten class, cooking or making her delicious candy. In her down time she could be found playing pinochle, bingo at the senior center, attending church service at the Stanhope United Methodist Church or just enjoying the view at the family lake house on Lake Ariel.
Her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who when gathered together at the very end brought joy to her eyes.
Nancy is predeceased by her parents Ewald Schmidt and Ruth Henry, her husband Robert Allen in 2009, as well as her sister Jean Jones.
She is survived by her two sons: Robert Allen of Succasunna, NJ and Gary Allen (Rosemary) of Blackstone, VA. Her sister, Joyce Schmidt of Moosic, PA. Her grandchildren: Stephanie Niemis, Natalie Wheeler, Taylor Allen and Bridget Watts. Her great-grandchildren: Charlotte, Jackson, Evelyn Niemis, Peyton & Collins Wheeler, Grayson, Londyn, Everly Watts, Kai & Rowan Shier-Allen.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main Street, Wharton, NJ on Friday, December 3, 2021, from 10am to 12 Noon with a funeral service at 12 Noon at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Pequest Union Cemetery, Great Meadows, NJ
