Michael J. Sabo, Jr.

Budd Lake:  Michael J. Sabo, Jr. “The Chief”, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at The Oaks at Denville.  He was 81 years of age.

Michael born and raised in Dover.  He lived in Wharton from 1967-1993, Lake George, NY from 1993 to 2022 before returning to Budd Lake, NJ.

Mr. Sabo was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church, Wharton his entire life.  He was also a member of the Wharton Fire Department, serving as Chief in 1987 when they won “Best Overall Fire Department” at the State Championships.  He also served on the Planning and Zoning Board for Wharton Boro.

He worked for Moretrench in Rockaway from 1973 to 1983 & Region Oil as a dispatcher and driver for many years retiring in 1993.

Predeceased by his parents, Michael J., Sr and Mary (née Brennan) & his beloved wife of 33 years, Arlene (née Gray) who passed in September of 2000.

Survived by his three children:

Michael J., III and his wife Melissa of Long Valley.

Stephanie Lyden and her deceased husband Keith in 2010.

Mary Louise Guida of Rockaway Twp.

Six Grandchildren:

Keith Lyden, Jr., Chloé Lyden, Wil Guida, Arlie Guida, Molly Sabo & Macy Sabo.

One Great Grandson:  Harrison Michael Lyden.

Also survived by his loving sister, Catherine A. Magliocchetti of Dover.

Visitation will be held 4-7pm on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton, NJ 07885.

A funeral Mass will be held 10am on Thursday at St. Mary’s Church, Wharton.

Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mine Hill.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael’s memory to the Wharton Fire Department, 10 Robert St., Wharton, NJ 07885 would be appreciated.
