Mary Prutzman Obituary

Hopatcong:  Mary A. Prutzman,  formerly of Dover, NJ, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, April 19, 2019 at the age of 94.  Mary was one of five children born to Walter and Pauline Kownacki in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Mary was known for her cooking and for her open door.  Anyone who visited would be welcomed with a kiss, a hug and a huge meal any time of the day or night.  Her home was filled to the brim every holiday with friends and family.  Her cooking was legendary and she shared her gift often, catering many events throughout her lifetime for anyone who asked.    She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Mary worked at the former Two Guys store in Dover, and later at Lentron in Flanders, NJ until she retired at the age of 83.  She notoriously refused to retire for as long as possible because she truly enjoyed working and being around people.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, John “Jack” Prutzman, and her eldest sons; John Prutzman of Budd Lake, NJ and Walt Prutzman of Angel Fire, NM.

She is survived by her son, Kevin Prutzman, with whom she lived in Hopatcong, NJ, and who lovingly cared for her until her passing.  She also left behind her daughter, Beverly Cilurso and husband, Russ of Sandy Ridge, NC; her son, Joseph Prutzman and wife, Susan Prutzman of East Stroudsburg, PA; and a daughter-in-law, Beverly Prutzman, of Angel Fire, NM, wife of the late Walt Prutzman.

Mary is also survived by eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, four nieces and family and friends too numerous to count, all of whom loved her dearly.

The family would like to thank Compassionate Care Hospice and Dr. Leah Schonfield, her long-time physician, for the extraordinary care they gave as Mary’s time came to a close.

There will be no visitation.  A graveside memorial service is planned and will be announced at a later date.
