Mt. Arlington: Martin T. “Marty” Meeks passed away at his home on July 18, 2023. He was 95 years of age.
Marty was born and raised in Dover. He lived in Hackettstown and Lafayette before moving to Mt. Arlington in 2016.
Martin was a US Army veteran of the Korean War, serving as a Sergeant in the 45th Signal Co. of the 45th Infantry, of which he was extremely proud.
Mr. Meeks owned and operated Clark’s Taxi of Dover with his brother James after returning from the Korean War. He later worked at Picatinny Arsenal as a pipefitter for 36 years, retiring in 1990.
He was a 62-year member of the American Legion Post 91 of Wharton and the VFW Post 262 of Monroe Township, NJ.
Predeceased by his parents, Turner Meeks and Marie (née Carberry) as well as his brother James.
Survived by his 2 sisters:
Helen McCarthy of Broadway, NJ and her daughters; Maureen, Kelly & Cathy.
Mary Tutko and her husband Bill of Rockaway Twp and their daughters; Kathleen & Kristen.
Also survived by many grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 10-12 noon on Friday, July 21, 2023 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton.
A 12 Noon funeral service will follow at the funeral home with interment at Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Marty’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital would be appreciated.
