Dover: On February 11, 2021, Luis Ivan Nieves entered into eternal rest at the age of 70. He was born in 1950 in his beloved Aguada, Puerto Rico to the late Fundador and Cecilia (Suarez) Nieves. He was the third of seven children. Luis moved to Dover, NJ as a child where he would later meet the love of his life, Cecy Nieves. They created a beautiful life together and raised their three adored children in Dover.
Luis was a dedicated employee who prior to his retirement was employed at Bell Labs/Lucent for over 38 years. He was an avid Mets’ Fan, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a well-loved son, brother, and uncle. His family and Catholic faith were of utmost importance to him. He was incredibly proud of his children: Ivan, Amaryllis, and Kelwin. He, along with his wife, prioritized education and he worked hard to send their children to Catholic schools and to college. He was a man of faith, a sports enthusiast, and a generous soul. He was the type of person you could always count on to be there when needed. He knew the value of enjoying the present moment and could happily sit with you and have a long conversation at any time. He was an excellent listener. He had a great sense of humor and could be counted on to make jokes or start dancing to make others laugh. He will be remembered with great fondness by all who knew him.
Luis is predeceased by his father, Fundador Nieves, and his sisters: Eneida Chaparro and Elsa Figueroa.
Luis is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cecy (Ruiz) Nieves, his mother, Cecilia Nieves, and his mother-in-law Hermiña Acevedo, his three children and their spouses: Ivan and Monica Nieves, Amaryllis and Romeo Joseph, and Kelwin and Marie Nieves, his grandchildren: Natalia, Alexa, Sienna, William, Brandon, Christian, Katelyn, and Quincy and his siblings: Orlando Nieves, Hector Nieves, Wilbert Nieves, and Mildred Margiotta; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be held 4-7 pm on Friday, February 26, 2021 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton, NJ. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 27th at 9am at Sacred Heart Church, 4 Richards Ave., Dover, NJ. Interment will follow immediately at Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover.
