Lorraine Julia (Sebelle) Rega

Lorraine Julia Rega passed peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 after a long illness.  Lorraine was a Leap Year baby and had just celebrated her 22nd birthday; she was 88.  Lorraine was born in Morris Plains, NJ to Julia (Smarr) Sebelle and William Sebelle.

Lorraine attended Bayley High School in Morristown.  She married Anthony Rega and worked in the legal department at Allied Chemical Corporation for many years. Lorraine and Tony lived in Wharton, retired to Clearwater, Fla., and then back to Dover, NJ to be with their granddaughters who they truly adored. 

Lorraine loved to dance!  She was the “leader” of the St. Mary’s line dancers called the “Happy Steppers”.  Lorraine was a member of the Red Hat Society and was an active member in St. Mary’s Church.  She was also a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Wharton Fire Department.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Anthony of 51 years, and sister Rosemarie Harding. 

She is survived by her children, Deborah Rega of Mine Hill, Mary Rega Curtis and son-in-law Jack Curtis of Mendham.

Lorraine is survived by her grandchildren, Bethany Curtis DeWitt, Amy Curtis, and grandson-in-law Matthew DeWitt.  She is also survived by her brother, William Sebelle of Seaford, Delaware, her “Rockaway” cousins, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Lorraine could best be described as a “fighter”; she endured so many setbacks during her later years of life.  She will be missed.

The family will hold a Memorial Mass near the anniversary of her passing next year.
