Keith M. Kanis

Jefferson Township:  Keith Kanis passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at Morristown Medical Center with his family at his side.  He was 72 years of age.

Keith was born in Paterson, moving to Oak Ridge in 1964 before settling in the Lake Hopatcong section of the Township after his marriage to Brenda (List). There he joined Jefferson Twp. Fire company #2, where he would later become an Exempt Fireman. He dedicated 32 years of service earning him the esteemed title of a life member, a distinction that honors his unwavering commitment and tireless contributions to the department. 

Mr. Kanis worked for Seiko Watch Company in Mt. Olive for over 20 years, retiring 5 years ago. After retiring, Keith enjoyed spending time with Brenda at their Florida home, traveling, visiting breweries and making new friends. 

Predeceased by his parents, Merrill “Mickey” Kanis & Helena (née Bakker), his sister, Diane Johnson and his great nephew Joey Johnson. 

Survived by his wife of 53 years, Brenda (née List).

His son Craig, wife Kelly ,along with their children Jack and Emma. 

His daughter, Courtney.

Two nephews Joe & Tim Johnson along with many other nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 4-7pm on Friday, October 18, 2024 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton.

A fireman service will be held 6:30pm at the funeral home during the visitation.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Keith’s memory to the Jefferson Fire Company #2 would be appreciated.
