Mt. Olive Township: At his home and with family by his side, John Reece Eremin passed away peacefully on Monday, January 27, 2025. He was 76 years of age.
John was born in Brooklyn, New York to John A. and Lois Eremin on November 2, 1948. After starting a family, the Eremin’s moved from Brooklyn to Norwood, New Jersey to enjoy life in the suburbs. John was in Boy Scouts and played third base and pitcher for his Little League team. He attended Bergen Catholic High School where he earned good grades and, perhaps more importantly to John, enjoyed running track and playing football as a pulling guard. In his senior year, his undefeated football team won the state title. John earned a BS in Mathematics at the University of Pittsburgh. It was on a blind date during his undergraduate years at Pitt that he met his wife Suzette. He would always attest to knowing immediately that she was the one; Suzette confesses to needing some convincing. The couple married on May 16, 1970 and two weeks later John reported to USMC basic training in San Diego, California. He was honorably discharged from the active reserves six years later with rank of Sergeant .
Less than content with a career teaching math or working in banking, John furthered his education by earning a BS in Accounting as well as an MBA in Finance from Farleigh Dickinson University. As businesses were becoming highly automated at this time, John then attended New York University where he earned the Certified Information Systems Auditor, (CISA) designation. In this position, John’s curious nature and love of travel were satisfied as he audited various businesses across the United States.
Aside from work, John had a variety of interests. His appetite for reading was voracious with non-fiction and history his preferred genre. In contrast, John loved a good scare and owned every one of Stephen King’s horror fiction books. Because he had audited Random House and met a few authors, John felt it was polite to finish a book even if he found it uninteresting—this as a courtesy to the author.
Much could be written of his love for model railroading. John had every one of his childhood trains as well as some worthy additions he purchased through the years. He upgraded to computerized transformers in order to support six or seven trains at once. John was always open to a new adventure. Among his many excursions were scaling Bell Rock, Arizona in penny loafers, absent of climbing gear or riding the subway in St. Petersburg, Russia without knowing a word of Russian or in which direction to head. He never refused a museum trip and found antiquing fascinating. John’s quick, dry wit and easy smile will be missed most by those who knew and loved him.
John is predeceased by his parents, John Anthony Eremin and Lois Merrell Eremin; brother-in-law Edward Lamp; grandparents, Reece and Eva Merrell and John and Elsie Eremin. He is survived by the joy and love of his life, his devoted wife of 54 years Suzette (née Kobak); loving daughter Margaux (Keith) Braun; precious grandchildren Abigail and Tobin Braun; sister Judith Lamp; in-laws Edgar (Irene) Kobak; Dorothy (Robert) Foote; nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held from 4-7pm on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton, NJ 07885.
A funeral service will be held 9:30am on Friday at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 120 Dover Chester Rd, Randolph, NJ 07869.
Interment will follow at The Monastery of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk Cemetery, Waymart, PA.
