Joan Freelan Martin

Mt. Arlington:  Joan Freelan Martin, 88 of Mt. Arlington passed away peacefully on October 10, 2023.

Joan was born in Dover, NJ in 1935 to the late Marie Morrissey Elton Freelan.  She graduated from Dover High School in 1953.  Joan married Lt. Col. Kenneth M. Martin in 1954 and was a proud Army wife, living in many places including Europe before returning to live in New Jersey after his retirement in 1972.

After raising her children, she continued her passion for learning.  Joan received many degrees, including a Masters degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.  She was a manager at Fort Monmouth for many years.

Predeceased by her husband Kenneth Martin in 2015.

She is survived by :

Her three children:

Dawn Dixon and husband Dave of Landing, NJ

Sherry Williams of Warren county, NJ.

Neil Martin and wife Maria of Beverly, MA.

Five grandchildren;  Edward Williams, Brie (Dixon) Pizzuto, Kelley (Dixon) Muccione, Hank Martin and Ellie Martin.

Three Great Grandchildren;  Ausin Stroke, Kyle Williams and Samantha Pizzuto.

Joan loved to spend time at her home in Cape Cod, MA with her family.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed entertaining, cooking & spending time with her grandchildren.

A visitation will be held 10am to 12 Noon on Friday, October 13, 2023 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton.

A 12 Noon service at the funeral home will follow the visitation.

Interment immediately after the service at Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover.
