Jean Hay Ferguson Caloz transitioned to her heavenly home early on the morning of Friday, October 4, 2024. Jean was born in Glasgow, Scotland; on June 3, 1935; to Agnes and William Ferguson. She immigrated to the United States in 1948; where she met the love of her life; Alfred L. Caloz and they married in July of 1954.
Together they had seven children, loving and protecting them her entire life. Jean loved her husband, Big Al (as he is known); as well as her extended family; sisters, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Jean and Al lived in Hackettstown, NJ; for more than two decades. They had a small family of animals during this time which included dogs, cats, pigeons, chickens, rabbits and goats. Neighborhood children often joined our family for evening meals.
Jean worked in the banking business for most of the time they lived in Hackettstown and retired from the bank.
They then moved to Florida after retirement and Jean worked for the Alzheimer’s Association.
After living through a few hurricanes, they moved to Williamsport, PA for about a decade; before moving back to New Jersey to be closer to family.
Jean enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, cross stitch in her spare time. She worshipped at the Methodist church and when she was able, was very active in the church.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her two sisters, Sarah and Isabel; and her daughter, Lucinda Ann.
Jean is survived by her loving husband Alfred; her daughter JoAnn Lappi (Randy); daughter Jean Averyt (Timothy); Daughter Cheri Holt (Nick Malarchak); Son Alfred L Caloz, Jr; Daughter Elizabeth Broshkevitch (John); Son James Caloz (Angel Harris).
Jean is survived by seventeen grand children; and twenty-four great grand children.
Loving remembrances from her children:
Mom was loving, caring, hardworking, supportive, determined and a selfless person; who put her families needs before her own.
Everyone who met her loved her.
You felt safe and loved in her arms.
Mom was creative, unique and strong willed; and demonstrated kindness that extended to all.
Mom had a genuine faith that filled her heart and she taught us to be strong and independent adults.
A celebration of life service will be scheduled in the Spring of 2025
