Irene W. (Walsh) Balz

Jefferson Twp:  Irene W. Balz (née Walsh) passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at her daughter's home.  She was 89 years of age.

She was born on September 20, 1935, to the late John and Margaret Walsh in Glen Ridge, NJ, and raised in Bloomfield. She lived for 32 years in the Berkshire Valley Section of Jefferson Township.

Mrs. Balz was a homemaker and raised two children with her husband of 48 years, Robert “Bob” Balz, who predeceased her in 2009.  She was also predeceased by her two sisters, Joan L. Richards and Marjorie A. Peloubet.

She is survived by her son Stephen J. Balz and his companion, Kimberly Higgins & her daughter, Karen I. Slusark and her husband Frank.

She is also survived by three grandsons: Daniel R. Balz and his wife Dianna, Brian J. and Matthew J. Slusark, and a great-granddaughter, Grace M. Balz.

A visitation will be held 4-7pm on Wednesday, May 28th at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton.

A funeral service will be held 10am on Thursday, May 29th at the Berkshire Valley Presbyterian Church, 635 Berkshire Valley Road, Wharton, NJ 07885. 

Interment will follow at the Church’s Cemetery.
