On Monday, November 9, 2020, Howard Miller, loving father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 90.
Howard was born on February 13, 1930 in Piscataway, NJ. He was one of seven children and the youngest of the late John and Olive (Applegate) Miller. Raised in Philipsburg, Howard attended Philipsburg High School before joining the US Army in 1946. He proudly served his country in the US Army and Airforce in post-war Europe and during the Korean War. Upon returning home to Wharton, NJ, he married Jean (Doll) Miller. They raised two daughters, Joyce and Debbie, and one son, Kevin. He worked as a police officer and in the transportation department for Picatinny Arsenal until his retirement in 1985.
Howard had a love for stock car racing and continued racing into his 60’s. He raced his car the “J16” in memory of his beloved daughter, Joyce, who predeceased him. In his later years, Howard enjoyed building toys and models for his grandchildren.
In addition to his daughter, Joyce, Howard was preceded in death by his wife Jean Miller and longtime companion June Mundell.
He is survived by his children, Debbie Kline and husband Mike of Wharton, NJ and Kevin Miller of Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Kevin Miller, Michael Kline and wife Melissa, Jaclyn Miller and husband Mike Phelan, Monica (Kline) Dattoli and husband Nick, and Eric Miller and wife Jessee; and five great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life and funeral service will be scheduled for a later date.
