Franklin Twp.: Henry L. Ackerman
Formerly of the Lake Hopatcong section of Jefferson Twp., passed away on Sunday, March 14th, 2010 at Brakeley Park Center, Phillipsburg, he was 95
Born and raised in Long Island, he moved to the Lake Hopatcong in 1950 and here to the New Village section of Franklin in 2003.
Mr. Ackerman was a self employed sign painter for over 40 years, retiring in 1976. He and his wife Ruth owned Ack's Beach in the Brady section of Lake Hopatcong from 1949 until 1962. During the winter months he had worked as an artist at the Hayden Planetarium in New York City.
He was a WW II Army Veteran and a member of the Lake Hopatcong Legion Post 245 and the Morris County Voiture 40 & 8.
Former member and past president of the Jefferson Twp. Rotary Club, the Lake Hopatcong Regional Planning Board and the Jefferson Twp. Board of Education. Henry was also a member of the Shriners and Masonic Lodge in W. Palm Beach, FL and the Gold Coast Banjo Band in Delray Beach, FL.
Survived by his wife of 67 years Ruth Gerhardt
Son: Henry R. and his wife: Kathy of Lake Hopatcong
Daughter: Susan Gleason and her husband: Barry of New Village
Also survived by five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 27th from 2-4 PM at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St. Wharton. A memorial funeral service will follow at 4 PM.
