Gabriel Otey

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Gabriel Otey, 71, on the evening of May 16th, 2025, in his most quiet and comfortable place, Home.

Gabriel was born in Dover, New Jersey, on October 17th, 1953; a birthdate he proudly shared with his late mother, Annabelle Rowe Otey.

Gabe was raised in the Dover/Rockaway area and was a 1971 Morris Hills High School graduate. He later went to work at AT&T for over 20 years, providing executive support services.

Gabe married Margo (Matthews)  on February 22nd, 1986. Shortly thereafter, they made their home in Budd Lake, where they raised their two sons. Gabe was a proud, supportive, caring father who was always present and available to his much-loved boys.

He was diagnosed for a second time with Throat Cancer in 2021 and has tirelessly fought since then for his family. Gabriel’s granddaughter's arrival was shortly before his diagnosis and a driving reason for him to continue his fight. Their love and bond for each other was extraordinary. He lived for her. 

He will forever be missed by his devoted wife, Margo; his loving sons, Matthew Gabriel and David Scott; his caring daughter-in-law's Jolaine and Abigail; and his cherished granddaughter, Annabelle, whom the sun rose and set upon.

Gabe will remain in the hearts of his sister, Roseann Otey Postel, brothers David Jr. and Norman; sisters-in-law Linda Brendel McDonald, Julie Otey, and Maggie Matthews Meyer; and many other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his dear mother Annabelle Otey and father David Otey; his brothers Arthur and Bertram McDonald and Raymond Otey; mother-in-law, Betty J Crites and husband Barry; father-in-law Ernest F Matthews; and his brothers-in-law Keith, Scott, and Stephen Matthews.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4:30 - 6:30 PM on Thursday, May 29th, at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton. 

A funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be private
