Frances (Fran) Slayton

Fran Slayton, a lifelong resident and former mayor of Jefferson Township, passed away on January 27th at the Excel nursing home in Dover where she resided for the past 5 years. She was born in New York City 1925. Fran would have celebrated her 100th Birthday on March 30th•

Fran is predeceased by her husband Wendell and grandson Rick. She is survived by her son, Dewey & his wife Virginia, grandson Christopher, his wife Kristen and two great grandchildren, Sam and Max.

Fran was the former owner of Mohawk Travel of Dover. She dedicated her life to civil service. Beyond her terms as mayor, she served on the town council for several years and began the first Cub Scout troupe in Jefferson in the late 50s. Frances was also a former president of the Morris County Republican Club. She also played a key role in the creation of the Jefferson Township Senior Citizen Center which was named in her honor.

Private services for the family will be held at Locus Hill Cemetery in Dover New Jersey.
