Beloved Teacher and Principal
Florence Fitzpatrick died peacefully on May 28, 2023 with her family by her side after a short illness. She was 92 years old.
She was born locally and was a 1948 graduate of Wharton High Scholl. She was a member of the National Honor Society. She graduated in 1952 from Newark State College and received her masters degree in education for elementary & Special Education from Kean College. She studied supervision & administration as well as developmental reading. She held certification as a principal in the state of New Jersey with 37 years of experience as a teacher, reading director and principal.
Florence taught in Parsippany, Randolph and Wharton School Systems.
Survivors include her niece Brenda Ackerson Fox, nephew Gary Ackerson and his wife Sandra, grandnieces; Bailie Kimble and her husband William, Rylie Ackerson as well as her many cherished in-laws.
Her parents, Patrick and Charlotte Callaghan, sister Ruth Ackerson, brother-in-law Hamilton Ackerson and her husband predeceased her. Her beloved husband Richard J. Fitzpatrick passed away on November 26, 2013, on the 60th wedding anniversary.
Visitation will be held 4-8pm on Friday June 3, at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton. A Funeral Service will be held 10am on Saturday at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the North Hardyston Cemetery in Hamburg.
