Estelle Savage,(Bechtold), age 72, of Wharton, NJ, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, in Holiday, FL. She was a women of quiet strength and a nurturing heart who lived her life dedicated to and for her family.
Born in Astoria, Queens, NY, Estelle became a longtime resident of Wharton, New Jersey, after losing her mother at a young age and relocating to Wharton with her father, William Bechtold. Wharton became “home” where she raised her children as a stay-at-home mom and built deep roots in the community, following her kids to all the different sporting events. She religiously attended St. Mary's Church and her faith was very important to her.
Although Estelle faced several of life’s challenges, she did so with grace and faith, always having an open door for anyone who needed a hand. Estelle was happiest when she was attending church, playing bingo, attending tricky trays or volunteering with the VFW and Legion events. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and dining out with her kids. She valued her friendships and could spend hours on the phone with her many friends. In her later years, she relocated to Holiday, Florida, to enjoy the sunshine and a more relaxed pace of life, always keeping in touch and frequently visiting her friends and family back home and long the way.
Estelle was predeceased by her ex-husband Gary Savage and their son, Gary Richard Savage, as well as, her beloved daughter, Michelle Lee Bernal (Boise).
She is survived by her sons, Michael Boise of Las Vegas, NV, and Mark Boise (Angela) of Wharton, NJ, daughter, Marie Boise of Wharton, NJ and was the cherished grandmother of Matthew, Jordan, Kristian, Eric, and Nicky, and a proud great-grandmother to Gianna.
A celebration of Estelle’s life will be held on June 25, 2026 at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Church in Wharton, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, an organization close to her heart.
