Whiting, New Jersey: Elizabeth "Betty" Matovcik, a cherished sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on July 9, 1930, to the late Joseph and Helen Matovcik, Betty's life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and community spirit.
Betty was predeceased by her beloved sisters, Helen DeMatteo and Agnes Sapp, as well as her brothers-in-law: Joseph DeMatteo, Edward Sapp, Robert Ewton, Jake DeHaas, Thomas Hudson, and Edmund Barry. She is survived by her devoted sisters, Sophie DeHaas, Mary Hudson, and Emma Barry, along with a host of nieces and nephews who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
A dedicated professional, Betty retired from Picatinny Arsenal in Wharton, NJ, in 1985 after 35 years of service as a typist, programmer, and shop checker. Her work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident in all she did, and she was respected and admired by her colleagues.
After retirement, Betty found joy in her new home in Whiting, NJ, where she continued to serve her community. She worked at Crestwood Manor Leisure Park as a waitress and kitchen aide, bringing warmth and a smile to those she served. Betty was an active member of the Village I Gold League, participating in line dancing, the Bocci Woman's Club, bazaars, and exercise classes. Her vibrant spirit and enthusiasm for life were infectious, and she made lasting friendships through her involvement in these activities.
A devoted member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Whiting, Betty's faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her. She will be remembered for her generous heart, her laughter, and her unwavering support for her family and friends.
Private services will be held to honor Betty's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in her memory, reflecting her spirit of giving and love for others.
Betty Matovcik leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and community that will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered in the hearts of many.
