Doris G. McCroy (Dolly) passed away on December 16, 2019 in Saint Claire’s Hospital, Denville after a short battle with esophageal cancer. She was 92.
Born in 1927 to the late Amos and Katie (Bates) Flatt, she was raised in Jefferson, before moving to Lower Berkshire Valley in 1947. She is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Berkshire Valley. There she served as Deacon for many years and in past years served as a Sunday School Superintendent at the Lower Berkshire Valley Methodist Church. She was a Boy Scout Leader. She was a 32-year member of the Ever-Young Seniors in Roxbury Township, where she served in many roles, but was most proud of her nine-year role as President. She was recently an active volunteer in the Roxbury School system, managing the doors and security. In 2009, she was awarded the Living Treasure Award for Morris County. She was always a willing helpful hand to friends and family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Warren H. McCroy, and her siblings Violet (Toots) Carey, John Flatt and William Flatt.
She is survived by her two children, Warren Gene McCroy Sr. (Michelle/Shelly Halko) Kathy (McCroy) Ferenc (Stanley). Five Grandchildren: Michelle (McCroy) Heins (Jon) Warren Gene McCroy Jr., Kim-Marie (Ferenc) Koseck (Randy) Michael Ferenc (Dana) Stanley Ferenc (Kristine). Four great-grandchildren: Stanley Ferenc, Aliyah Heins, Juliet Heins, and Anthony Ferenc. Many loved nieces and nephews.
On Saturday, December 21, 2019 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm visitation will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Berkshire Valley, 635 Berkshire Valley Road, Wharton, (Jefferson Township) NJ, 07885. A Memorial Service will follow at 12:00 pm, with an urn burial in the cemetery thereafter. As we have been strictly instructed not to take her to a funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations to the Doris McCroy Deacon Fund of the First Presbyterian Church of Berkshire Valley can be made in Doris’s name.
