Rockaway Twp.: Daniel Joseph Schmidt, 75, of Rockaway, NJ, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2024 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Born on August 23, 1949, Dan dedicated his life to service, hard work, and family.
He served his country with pride as a member of the United States Navy. Following his military service, he enjoyed a successful 30+ year career at Xerox, where he was well-respected for his dedication and professionalism.
Dan was a member of the American Legion Post 91 Wharton, NJ. He was a talented handyman who could fix or build anything. He also had an interest in investment real estate, spending most weekends maintaining the properties.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ellen, daughter Jennifer Wise and partner Stephen Diggle of Raynham, MA, stepchildren Scott Dorey and wife Jennifer of Rockaway, NJ, and Sarah Dorey and partner Steve Paquette of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, sister Janice Frankenbush and husband Alfred of Mine Hill, NJ, brother Richard Schmidt and wife Lori of Wapwallopen, PA, brother Timothy Schmidt and wife Irene of Mine Hill, and his grandchildren Jordan, Christian, Hayden, and Tanner, who brought him immense joy.
A celebration of life will be held 4-7pm on Friday October 25, at the Wharton America Legion Post #91, 99 North Main St. Food and drinks will be served so "Come share memories and a meal".
