Daniel E. Bates Jr. (Tick) formally of the Berkshire Valley section of Jefferson Township entered
into eternal rest at Bristol Glen in Newton N.J. on June 19, 2024 at the age of 96.
Daniel was born on July 4, 1927 at his family home in Milton, NJ to Daniel E. Bates Sr. &
Katheryn Bates. He was the eldest son of 15 siblings. He married Vera May Von Scheven on
October 7, 1950. Dan graduated from Roxbury High School class of 1949.
He was an Army Veteran who proudly served his country from September 26, 1945 and was
honorably discharged on March 12,1947.
He retired from Picatinny Arsenal in 1982.
Daniel was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Berkshire Valley. He was an
avid hunter and fisherman. He was a Free Mason at the Acacia Lodge # 20 in Dover, N.J., a Tall
Cedar, and member of the American Legion Post 91 Wharton, N.J.
Daniel is survived by 5 sons David (Barbara), Tom (Patty), James (Lori), Mark (Lisa),
Robert (Sharon) and daughter-in-law Donna.
11 Grandchildren: Vanessa, Trisha, Shaina, Matthew, Robert, Eric, Andrew, Steven, Zachary,
David & Sarah.
9 Great Grandchildren: Abbi, Trinity, Hunter, Anna, Owen, Jacob, Lincoln, Titus & Liliana.
His 2 sisters Joan Fogg & Muriel Thompson & Brother Gerald.
Daniel was predeceased by his parents Daniel E. Bates Sr. & Katheryn Bates, his wife Vera May
and son Daniel E. Bates III. Brother’s John, William, Donald, Charles & Raymond Bates. His
sisters Betty Haycock, Margaret Bostedo, Jane Kish, Eileen Bates, Maurietta Estler, & Patricia
Thompson.
Visitation will be held 5-8pm on Monday, June 24, 2024 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton.
A funeral service will be held 11am on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at The First Presbyterian Church of Berkshire Valley.
Interment will follow at the Church Cemetery.
