Christina Mele (nee Amabile), 85, of Lake Hopatcong passed away peacefully at home on March 7th, 2021 surrounded by her family.
Christina was born in Jersey City and moved to Lk. Hopatcong in 1972. She was a retired cook for the Jefferson Twp. School System. Christina was a long time active parishioner and member of the Rosary Altar Society of Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church in Lk. Hopatcong and also an active member of the Lakeland Seniors.
Christina was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Dominick, who passed on Dec. 25, 2020. Christina and Dominick were never apart, one was an extension of the other. Predeceased also by her parents, a brother and his wife, 2 brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, and their spouses, a still-born son and a great-grandson.
Christina is survived by her 5 daughters and their husbands whom she considered sons, Regina & Joe Schmidt of Lk. Hopatcong, Donna & Steve Penney of Succasunna, Crisann & Don Campbell of Flanders, Sandra & Mike Hyder of Lk. Hopatcong, Mollie-Ann & Steve Boonstra of Westampton; 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, her brother and sister-in-law, George and Bernice Amabile of E. Hanover, and many nieces and nephews. She leaves a legacy of love and will be greatly missed.
The pride in her family was evident to all who met her, family was her greatest treasure. She will be remembered for her love of cooking and passing on the traditions of her Italian heritage which she held so dear. Over the years she enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, collecting dolls, square dancing and going to the casino.
Visitation will be held from 4–7pm on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton, NJ. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 12th at 10am at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 204 Espanong Rd., Lake Hopatcong. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, E. Hanover.
