Christene Mary (Thorpe) McCarthy

Rockaway Township:  With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Christene McCarthy, a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, sister, sister in law, daughter, godmother, aunt and friend. She left an incredible mark on the lives of all who knew her.

Born on Valentine’s day, February 14 Christene entered the world filled with love. She grew up in North Bergen with her sister, Nancy, brother Bobby and her mother Mary and father Robert. 

Christene had a love for learning. She graduated North Bergen High School in 1968 and went on to complete her Bachelor’s Degree at Jersey City State College in 1972. She spent the early years of her career as a Teacher at Cliffside Park High School. Christene then went on to work at Provident Bank as a CPA at H&R Block.

One day in math class she was blessed with meeting Patrick McCarthy who would end up being by her side and the most amazing and dedicated husband for 51 years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful life and family filled with love and devotion.

Christene's greatest joy was her family. She was a dedicated mother to Nancy and Marc, guiding them with unwavering support and unconditional love. Her grandchildren brought immense happiness to her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

A pillar of strength and compassion, Christene touched countless lives through her selfless acts and kindness. She was always thinking about other people, whether it be calling them or sending beautiful cards. As an aunt, godmother and sister (in-law) she showered love and wisdom upon those fortunate enough to have her in their lives.

Christene's reunion with her beautiful daughter and angel Nancy Helbourg brings solace to her family, knowing she is now at peace.

Christene is survived by her loving husband, Patrick McCarthy, devoted son Marc, son in law Keith, daughter in law Yana, cherished grandchildren Jacklyn, Zachary, Cotoria, Assunta, Cillian and Aurelius, sister Nancy and countless nieces, nephews, brother and sister in laws. Christene is proceeded by her beautiful daughter Nancy, mother Mary, father Robert, grandmother Grammy, brother Bobby, mother in law Carmela and father in law Patrick:

May Christene's legacy of love, kindness, and devotion inspire us all. Her memory will forever be etched in our hearts.
