Jefferson Twp: Carol Barbara Apgar Douris returned home to our Lord on September 18, 2020. There she was reunited with her devoted husband and love of her life, Paul A Douris and her son, Paul A Douris Jr. Carol was born in Brooklyn, NY to Barbara and Walter Apgar.
She was raised in Queens, NY and went to Our Daughters of Wisdom High School where she met her best friend and future sister in law, Jo Ellen Jacek.
After graduating from High School Carol worked in Manhattan for an advertising agency until she was married in September 1951. It was then that the newlyweds relocated to the University of Maryland campus where her husband, Paul was a student. In the blink of an eye she gave birth to her first child Richard P Douris, followed by Claudia Ann, Paul Jr. and Michael Walter.
In 1960 the Douris Family moved to Lake Hopatcong NJ and lived there for a good many years on Weldon Road. There is where she and Paul raised their children in a loving and supportive community where your neighbors were an extended part of the family.
Carol will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother whose family meant the world to her. She always made every holiday, birthday and celebration special and unique. She was known for hosting her famous dinner parties and social gatherings for friends and family. Carol made sure that every detail passed her inspection with the outcome of perfection, class and beauty.
Carol was a long time parishioner at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Lake Hopatcong. She taught CCD and was Past President of the Rosary Altar Society. Her strong and passionate faith was a gift that was instilled in her children. Carol also was a volunteer at St Clare’s Hospital in Dover, NJ and was a member of the St Theresa’s Bowling League. She loved New York, the theater, art, travel and music. It should be noted that her love of Judy Garland music was made known to all that knew her. In her words, “Don’t mess with my Judy!” She was a strong, determined woman who always expected the best of herself and others.
Carol is survived by her three children Richard and his wife Carmela, Claudia and Michael. In addition she leaves behind six grandchildren, John, Melissa, Sandra, Belinda, Andrew and Natalie. Carol was also blessed with four great grandchildren Cayden, Skylar, Catherine and Alyssa who only was born the day before Carol’s passing.
This woman was a beacon of light in a dark night to all that knew her. She will be missed by many. Rest in Peace, Carol…..Job Well Done!
