Carl Gross Obituary

Jefferson Township:  Carl J. Gross passed away peacefully, on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at his home.  He was 90 years of age.

Carl was born to the late John Gross and Tilly (née Luguski) in Wilkes-Barre, PA, and moved to Dover at the age of 5.  He has lived in Wharton, Mine Hill, Ogdensburg, Mt. Arlington, and settled in the Lake Hopatcong section of Jefferson Township in 1968.

Mr. Gross worked for the Morris County Courthouse as the Maintenance Supervisor for his entire career, retiring in April, 1997.

Carl was a proud Korean War, US Marine veteran and was an active member of the American Legion Post 245 of Lake Hopatcong.  Carl was a true Patriot and loved his country dearly.  He was an outdoorsman, finding solace in nature.  He also belonged to the NRA and the Jefferson Sportsman Club.

Carl is predeceased by his two sisters, Dorothy E. Bruno and Eleanor Reeder & his brother Tony Gross as well as his daughter Katherine Gross.

Carl is survived by his loving wife Helen T. Marino of 68 years.

Three beloved daughters:  Dianne Heitzman, Tina Fontana (Mark)  & Kelly Vela (Matt).

Five cherished grandchildren and two dear great-grandchildren:  Marissa Fontana, Casey Fontana (Phil Demers), Jaime Byrne, Courtney Lombardo (Tristen) and their son Silas, Christina Zahn (Mike) and their daughter Aria.

Visitation will be held 4-7pm on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton.

A funeral prayer will be said at 11am on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at the funeral home before proceeding to Locust Hill Cemetery for burial and military honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Carl's name to the American Cancer Society or the American Legion Post 245 toward its current reconstruction would be appreciated.
