Mine Hill: Carey Carroll was born on August 30, 1951 in Newark, New Jersey. He spent most of his life living in Mine Hill. After a loving life as a husband and father of two daughters he passed away on April 30th, 2020. As a teen he was most known for his talents on the football field and his musical talents with the local rock bands The Wild Child's and On The Rocks. Carey retired from service with New Jersey Transit in 2011 after 40 years. Witnessing the September 11th terrorist attacks placed a calling on his heart to join the Mine Hill fire Department where he served for almost 20 years. He spent many of those years as an officer, including a term as Chief. He served as the Drum Sergeant of the Morris County Police Pipes and Drums where he enjoyed playing music with his fellow first responders.
He is most remembered for his loving heart, caring blue eyes, generosity, and always helping others. His favorite pastimes included spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, golfing, boating, skiing and cooking. He loved to RV and spend time in Long Beach Island and the Florida Keys. Those that knew him best will remember him always tapping his fingers to the beat of music, constantly checking the weather channel, turning the music up, and turning up the heat (after someone else was always turning it down). Above all, they will remember his grace as a host and that his home was always open to guests. Carey and his high school sweet heart enjoyed a joyful marriage of 48 years, had two beautiful daughters and six grandchildren. He will forever be in the hearts of those who knew him.
Those who wish to honor Carey may make a donation in his name to the Mine Hill Fire Department 230 US-46 Mine Hill, NJ 07803 or to Police Pipes & Drums of Morris County P.O. Box 291 Succasunna, NJ 07876
Upon reopening of the church, we look forward to seeing you at a celebration of his life.
