Barbara “Charlotte” Kelly - January 3, 1935 - July 9, 2025
Wharton: Charlotte was born Barbara Charlotte Rowe in Wharton, New Jersey to William M. & Helen Rowe. She was raised on Langdon Avenue with her brother William Rowe, Jr. and attended Potter School and Wharton High School. Charlotte attended college at Averett College in Danville, Virginia and then worked as an airline hostess for Eastern Airlines in Miami, Florida and New Orleans, Louisiana.
She married Bernard F. Kelly, a young NJ State Trooper, also from Wharton, in 1956 and had three children, Paul, Alan & Mark.
After raising her children, Charlotte returned to work for Estee Lauder, Inc. She became very involved in Wharton by joining the Library Board, The Wharton Planning Board and was President of the Wharton Historical Society for over 20 years. She authored the Book ‘Wharton” (Arcadia Press), showcasing the rich history of Wharton, NJ, its growing industries, lives and businesses in a small American mining town.
Charlotte was predeceased by her husband Bernard F. Kelly in 2020, her parents William Morford Rowe and Helen Rowe (Garanyi), and her brother William Rowe, Jr.
She is survived by her children Paul of Dover N.J and his wife Valerie (Cregar) of Dover, NJ, Alan Rowe of Paterson, NJ and Mark of Wharton, NJ; her grandchildren Stephanie, Stephen, Kyle, Kevin & Elizabeth and her great grandchildren, Niyah Jane, Deklan, Kian, Redmond and Frankie Mae.
Charlotte was beloved by family and friends. She was an extraordinary woman and loved being known as a Wharton girl.
Visitation will be held 4-8 pm on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton.
A funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at the funeral home, followed by interment in Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover.
