Barbara Ann (Mead) Ahlers

Hardwick Twp.: Barbara Ann Ahlers (nee Mead) passed away peacefully on Feb. 12th, 2021 on the farm that she loved surrounded by her family. She was 90 years old.

Barbara was born in East Orange, NJ on July 28th, 1930. She grew up and went to high school in Bloomfield. After marrying Thomas Henry Ahlers in 1951 the couple moved to the Parsippany area where they raised their six children and ran the family surveying and engineering business together. She and "Tom" later moved to their beloved Spring Valley Farm, where they spent 40 golden years together. "Colt" as Tom called her, loved all animals, especially horses; she was deeply dedicated to her family and friends, and to many veteran causes. Barbara was the epitome of style and grace in every situation: She could recall the names of waiters from restaurants last visited decades ago, could fix a fence and buck hay bales in an elegant blouse; all while running the business and raising their six children. Until her final days, she was known for being the last person off the dance floor.  

Barbara is survived by her six children; Phyllis Brunner and husband David of WA, Eileen McMillan of MT, Richard Ahlers and wife Karlyn of Hardwick, William Ahlers and wife Jodi of Hardwick, Robert Ahlers and wife Dawn of Hardwick and Susan Ahlers of VA, nine grandchildren; Shane, Kelly, Sadie, Troy, Claire, Lauren, Elyse, Alexis and Felicia, and seven great grandchildren; Tyson, Tanner, Ava, Hunter, Austin, Elliana, and Emilia. And by her brother William Mead and wife Marie of Cedar Grove.

Visitation will be held 9-10am on Monday February 15, 2021 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton. A Funeral Service will be held 10am at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Mine Hill.

A Celebration of Life for Barbara will be held at a later date at her family farm in Hardwick.
