Wharton: Augustine E. (Gus) Magistro, 89, passed away on June 16, 2021 at St. Clare’s Hospital/Denville.
Gus was born in Brooklyn, NY and lived in Wharton for the last 62 years. Gus graduated from Lehigh University in 1952 with a mechanical engineering degree. He retired from Picatinny Arsenal in 1995 after 35 years of service. While there he evolved a unique diagnostic process to determine Root Causes of Failure. His methods were also deployed to five major Army Commands and are in use today.
Gus was a Korean War Army veteran. Gus served on two school Boards (Wharton and Morris Hills Regional) in Morris County and was instrumental in placing monuments at Picatinny Arsenal and Denville in 1997 to honor the work done to break the sound barrier.
He was predeceased by his parents John and Josephine and sister Concetta.
Gus is survived by his wife, Louise of 66 years.
Five sons and one daughter: James (Marilou), John (Barbara), Peter (Linda), Margaret (Ray), Paul (Krissi), Tom (Chris).
Nine grandchildren: Lauren, Gregory, Peter, David, Timothy, Kyle, Jill, Brendan and Morgan.
One great grandson, William.
Visitation will be held 4-7pm on Monday, June 21, 2021 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton.
A funeral service will be held 11am on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mine Hill.
