August (“Auggie”) Dee Vinti passed peacefully on July 12th 2023 at the age of five at New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital after a 14 month long fearless battle with a rare brain cancer called DIPG. Auggie was born in Middletown, NY on August 16th, 2017 and later resided in Maspeth, NY.
He is survived by his loving parents Bailey H. Overko and Joseph C. Vinti, older brother Jaiden and little sister Norah, his grandparents Thomas & Maureen Overko, Rose Mary Franceschini and Joseph Vinti and many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.
Since being diagnosed with DIPG in May of 2022, he maintained a warrior’s spirit. The bravery he exhibited was extraordinary. While receiving countless treatments and medical procedures with occasional days or months in the hospital Auggie‘s disposition hardly ever allowed for a complaint, always keeping a smile or a thumbs up. His personality never faltered as evident by the way he charmed so many of his dedicated nurses and doctors.
His favorite color was rainbow because how can you choose only one? He enjoyed riding his bike, playing outside, Superheroes, video games, snacking, movie nights, Godzilla, and spending time with his family and friends. Wise beyond his years, his taste in music was impeccable, with imagine dragons “Believer” being his favorite.
Auggie aspired to be a fireman and proudly became an honorary firefighter by Belvidere Good Will Fire Company #1 on June 5th, 2022. In addition, he dabbled in pretend police work because helping others made him happy. He attended pre-K at St. Stans where he was described by his teachers as a kind and gentle soul who was sociable and eager to learn. Making friends was an easy task, and was adored by his classmates and caring teachers.
Auggie was a kindred spirit and touched the lives of so many with kindness, silliness, bravery, and love. Though he was taken too soon, forever he will live on in our hearts.
Visitation will be held 2-5pm on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton, NJ 07885. A funeral service will be held at 5pm, immediately after the visitation, also at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
