Roxbury Twp.: Arnold "Joe" Staples passed away on September 27, 2024 after a short illness. He was 76 years old.
Arnold, who was known as "Joe" to everyone, received his nickname as a youngster from a favorite uncle. "Joe" will always be the name family and friends know and remember him by.
Joe was born in Dover, NJ to Clarence and Anne (Lecher) Staples on August 2, 1948. Joe lived his entire life in the Lower Berkshire Valley section of Roxbury Twp., only leaving to serve in the US Army in Germany.
Joe's love of all things automotive started as a youngster, helping his cousin, Chet Jones, with his stock car #42. Years later Joe would build his own stock car, #41, to also race in Middletown, NY.
Hot rods and classic cars became his passion. Building a number of cars for himself and family. Helping many members of his hot rod club, NJSRA, with theirs. Joe was always ready to lend a hand. He will be missed by many.
Joe retired from the NJ DOT after 33 years of service. He was a member of the North Jersey Street Rod Association, Wharton and Lower Berkshire Valley fire departments and a member of Wharton American Legion, Post 91.
He is predeceased by his parents, brother Gary, and Marie Babcock.
He is survived by his brother Clarence and his wife Pat of Budd Lake, sister Pat Stalter and her husband Terry of Wharton, fiancé Linda A Bosland of Wayne, nephew Ryan Stalter, niece Sherri Clemente and her husband Helio and nephew Jimmy and his wife Virginia Mathie.
Grandpa to Adrianna (AJ), Daniella (Dani) and James Goryn, Piper Remmich and Carter James (CJ) Bader. He also leaves behind Kate Bosland, Jaimie and Ziggy Goryn and Amanda Bosland.
Special thanks to his good friend, Joe Floridia and all the members of NJSRA for their support and friendship.
