Arlene Stickle Obituary

In Loving Memory of Arlene Gallagher Stickle

August 20, 1937 – April 4, 2025

Arlene “Skee” Gallagher Stickle, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 4, 2025, at the age of 87, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 20, 1937, Arlene lived a life defined by unconditional love, boundless kindness, and unwavering generosity.

A Life Centered in Family

Arlene was the heart and soul of her family - the irreplaceable matriarch who built a legacy of love and strength. Her family was in fact her greatest joy, and she poured her heart and soul into every role she held. The life she created around them is her most enduring gift.

She is survived by her devoted children:

Susan Carcano (Gabriel) of Wharton, NJ, with whom she resided
William Stickle (Tina) of Lake Hopatcong, NJ
Christine Esposito (George) of Cresco, PA

She is now reunited in eternal peace with her beloved daughter, Sharon Nieves, who passed in 2017 and remained deeply missed and thought of each and every day.

Arlene’s legacy continues through her 14 grandchildren:

Gabriella Carcano (Mario), Reanna Carcano (Vaughn), Angela Barboza (Milton), Madeline Nieves, Lissa Nieves (Angel), Adrianna Darlington (Ashleah), Noel Nieves, Sean Esposito (Tristyn), Kayla Esposito (Jess), Luke Esposito (Angel), Harry Stickle, Travis Stickle, Jessika Carcano, and Jesse Stickle.

She was also blessed with 28 great-grandchildren: Juliana, Tito, Ariana, Tatiana, Alyssa, Eddie, Ryan, Daniel, Anthony, Jocelyn, Joshua, Rafael, Aniyah, Vincent, Alina, Augustus, Aziyah, Isabella, Aria, Destiny, Kayden, Mylissa, Phoenix, Genesis, Khloe, Everleigh, Pearl, and Ruby.

Her love extended into yet another generation with her 2- soon to be 3, great-great-grandchildren: Alani, Elias, and a baby girl due to arrive on what would have been Arlene’s 88th birthday, August 20.

She was predeceased by her parents, Margaret Smith Gallagher and Joseph Gallagher; her siblings Margaret Bartek, Anna Williams, Joseph Gallagher, Kenneth Gallagher; Robert Gallagher Charles Gallagher and her very special brother-in-law, Warren Williams.

A Life of Dedication, Kindness, and Joy

Arlene was a proud retiree of Verizon, where she worked since the age of 16 with dedication and pride.

She was also a Lifetime Member of The American Legion Post 27 Women's Auxiliary in Dover, NJ, honoring the values of service, patriotism, and community support.

She never forgot a single birthday and made everyone she knew feel special and seen.

Arlene had a gift for staying connected—her daily chats on Facebook were filled with love, encouragement, a beautiful song, a funny meme, but most importantly- her signature warmth. She was the heart of her family, known for her open arms, her kind and accepting nature, and her ability to make everyone feel like they were loved and belonged.

Arlene’s warmth and compassion reached far beyond her immediate family. She was lovingly known as “Gram” not only by blood, but by the many who came to love her as their own. Her chosen family—friends, and all those whose lives she touched—knew her as a steady source of comfort, wisdom, and unconditional love. Her nurturing spirit created lifelong bonds that transcended traditional definitions of family.

Arlene had a contagious smile and a laugh that could brighten any room. Arlene loved to have a glass of wine and dance—whether at family parties or weddings —and her joy was infectious. She lit up every space she entered.

Arlene’s life was a beautiful example of love in its purest form. Her memory will live on through the generations of lives she helped shape, support, and uplift.

The heartbreak felt by her family and friends is immeasurable. Her absence leaves an ache in so many hearts, a void that can never be filled. She was truly one of a kind. Her spirit will live through all her family and friends in the love we share, the stories we tell, and the strength she passed down to each of us.
