Pompton Plains: Loving Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother to be and Dear Friend, Anita M. Viola (née-Coveney), 83, passed away on February 26, 2022 after a brave struggle with dementia. She is survived by her devoted husband Leon who loved and cared for her deeply throughout their 44 year marriage. He provided loving companionship and extraordinary care during her last years.
Born in Newark, she resided in Verona, Roseland, and Port Orange FL prior to moving north to CT and finally NJ with her husband Leon.
Anita received a Secretarial degree from Katherine Gibbs Montclair NJ while starting a family and found herself parenting 5 young boys alone while her first husband surgeon Anthony D’Alessio was sent off to Vietnam. Juggling the demands of parenting with the desire to resume her education, Anita attended Caldwell College in NJ and received a BS in Business Education. She also completed graduate work at Shippensburg State College in PA and Montclair State College in NJ.
After college Anita was a teacher at Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell NJ for 14 years before pursuing a career in real estate at Coldwell Banker in Upper Montclair NJ where she worked until her retirement.
Anita loved to travel and was an avid reader. She was known for her love of family and friends, positive outlook, and bright and friendly personality. Everybody who knew Anita loved her.
Predeceased by her parents, Eugene and Grace Coveney, brother Gene, sisters Eileen and Eleanor, and her beloved granddaughter Kyleigh D’Alessio.

Visitation will be held 4-7pm on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton.
A funeral mass will be held 10am on Thursday at St. Mary’s Church, Wharton.
Interment will be private.
