Angel Gualberto Haro Sanchez, a devoted husband, loving father, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025, in Denville, New Jersey, at the age of 101. Born on July 11, 1923, in La Libertad, Peru, Angel lived an extraordinary life marked by faith, service, and love for his family. He is survived by his children Maria Betzabé Carrion and her husband, Oswaldo; Maritza Uceda; and Ervic Haro and his wife, Danella; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. His beloved wife, Maria Benigna Robles Carranza, and his daughter, Blanca Ivonne Calle, preceded him in death.

Angel spent most of his career as a Technical Supervisor for the Peruvian Air Force, where his expertise and dedication as a mechanic were unparalleled. On one notable occasion, when a pilot was unable to fulfill his duties, Angel took to the cockpit and flew the plane himself, relying on his deep understanding of the aircraft despite never having formal pilot training. His work took him to many places around the world, including the United States, where he attended The Beatles’ legendary concert in Kansas City and brought home a signed vinyl record.

In 1958, Angel’s life changed forever when missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints introduced him to the gospel while he was working on his car. Baptized in 1960, Angel became one of the early leaders of the Church in Peru. As bishop of “Barrio Cinco” in Lima, he helped send 25 young men and women on missions, earning the unit the nickname “El Barrio de Oro” (“The Golden Ward”). He later served as a Patriarch and as a temple worker in the Lima, Peru Temple. He was a constant source of strength and inspiration to those around him, sharing his faith and testimony with everyone he met. Over the years, he was blessed to see members of each successive generation, including his son, grandson, and great-grandson, dedicate themselves to missionary service for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—a testament to the enduring values he instilled in his loved ones.

Angel married the love of his life, Maria, on May 24, 1952, in Lima, Peru. Together, they raised a family rooted in faith and love. Maria cared for Angel throughout much of their life, and in her final years, he cared for her with the same devotion. They were often seen reading scriptures and church publications together, and when Maria could no longer read, Angel lovingly read to her.

Even in his later years, Angel maintained an active and curious mind. He continued to study English, taking online classes, watching YouTube videos, and carrying his English book everywhere. A gifted handyman, Angel applied the skills he learned as a mechanic to help others, whether fixing stoves, repairing grills, or assisting peers at the adult day care facility, where everyone affectionately called him “Papá.” He impressed those around him with his knowledge of physics and aerodynamics, often sharing stories of his Air Force days.

Angel’s love for life, music, and culture shone brightly throughout his life. He played the guitar and cherished the valses peruanos of his homeland. His favorite meal was ceviche picante in the style of northern Peru, a taste that reminded him of his roots.

Angel lived a life of service, humility, and faith, leaving a legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come. His family, friends, and all who knew him will remember him as a kind, resourceful, and faithful man who dedicated his life to the Lord and his loved ones.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 25th at 6:00pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 47 Bassett Highway, Dover, New Jersey.

Nacido el 11 de julio de 1923 en La Libertad, Perú, Angel vivió una vida extraordinaria llena de fe, servicio y amor por su familia. Le sobreviven sus hijos: María Betzabé Carrión y su esposo, Oswaldo; Maritza Uceda; y Ervic Haro y su esposa, Danella; 12 nietos y 10 bisnietos. Su amada esposa, María Benigna Robles Carranza, y su hija, Blanca Ivonne Calle, lo precedieron en el descanso eterno.

Angel dedicó gran parte de su vida profesional como Supervisor Técnico de la Fuerza Aérea del Perú, donde su conocimiento y dedicación como mecánico fueron incomparables. En una ocasión memorable, cuando un piloto no pudo cumplir con su deber, Angel tomó el mando del avión y lo piloteó él mismo, confiando en su profundo conocimiento de la aeronave, a pesar de no haber recibido entrenamiento formal como piloto. Su carrera lo llevó a muchos lugares del mundo, incluido Estados Unidos, donde asistió al legendario concierto de los Beatles en Kansas City y regresó con un disco de vinilo autografiado.

Se les veía frecuentemente leyendo juntos las Escrituras y publicaciones de la Iglesia, y cuando María ya no pudo leer, Angel lo hacía por ella con ternura.

Incluso en sus últimos años, Angel mantuvo una mente activa y curiosa. Continuó estudiando inglés, tomando clases en línea, viendo videos en YouTube y llevando consigo su libro de inglés a todas partes. Conocido por su habilidad técnica, Angel aplicó lo aprendido como mecánico para ayudar a los demás, ya fuera reparando cocinas, arreglando parrillas o asistiendo a sus compañeros en el centro de cuidado para adultos, donde lo llamaban cariñosamente “Papá”. Impresionaba a todos con su conocimiento de física y aerodinámica, compartiendo a menudo historias de sus días en la Fuerza Aérea.
