Wharton: William Charles Shupe, Sr. passed away with his family by his bedside at Visiting Nurse Association of Northern New Jersey at Dover General Hospital on Wednesday, November 20, 2019. He was 89 years of age.
William was born in Morristown, NJ to the late William R. Shupe and Margaret L. (née Sanders). He was a lifelong resident of Wharton.
He was a US Navy Korean War veteran and a longtime member of the American Legion Post 91 of Wharton.
Mr. Shupe was a Production Engineer at Picatinny Arsenal for 35 years, retiring in September of 1985. He was also the owner/operator of the Firehouse Pub in Wharton for 32 years.
William was a member of the Board of Fire Wardens and was Past Chief of the Wharton Fire Department in 1971 and again in 1980. He was a life member of the NJ Firemen's Relief Association, the NJ State Exempt Firemen's Association as well as a Wharton Exempt Firemen.
William is predeceased by his brother and former mayor of Wharton, Harry R. Shupe, Sr. and his sister Elaine Bryant.
He is survived by his wife Cecilla (née Hanson) of 68 years.

Also survived by seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 1-5pm on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton.
A funeral service will be held 11am on Monday, November 25, 2019 at the funeral home.
Interment will be private.
