John C. Mainieri

Wharton:  John C. Mainieri passed away at Morristown Medical Center on Tuesday, December 18, 2018.  He was 76 years of age.

John was born on St. John's Day, the 24th of June in 1942.  He resided in Jersey City, Hasbrouck Heights and Ocean Township before making Wharton his permanent home.

John went to high school at Don Bosco Prep, where he maintained friendships for over 50 years.  He studied electrical engineering at NY Institute of Technology and was employed at ITT Avionics.  John also was employed by the Operating Engineers Local 825, following in his father's footsteps in construction.  It was in the early 1990's he relized his dream of photography and followed his passion for many years, owning and operating three ESP Studio locations before he retired in 2015.  He studied to pursue his certification in photography and was awarded his CPP in 2012.  This was an honor among his peers and he was so proud to be one of the few in the state of NJ.  In the last few years during his retirement, John sat on the Board of Trustees at his condo complex in Overlook Village, Wharton, NJ and tried to offer his expertise in the projects at hand.

John loved to travel and some of our best memories were on the Islands of Hawaii.  We were married on Kauai in 1993 and returned there every year for 8 years in a row.  He was facinated by the whales, the most beautiful mammals in the ocean, and he spent most of our vacations on a boat with his camera just waiting for them to breech.  Cruising also became our favorite way to see the world.  We were able to take many wonderful trips to places we never knew existed.  So many beautiful memories...

At home, John loved to just pack up Jackson, our border collie, and take afternoon excursions including as many dog parks as we could find, down to the beach and sometimes just getting lost in the countryside.  John was a man of simple pleasures but always with a camera by his side.

Predeceased by his parents Frank and Theresa (née Martini).

Survived by his wife Diane (née Montecullo) of 25 years, his daughter, Donna Monachino Mainieri of North Carolina and his step-daughter Deon E. Hurst of Parsippany, NJ.

Also survived by five grandchildren:  Kimberly Anne, John Anthony, Matthew Austin, Francis Xavier and Joseph William.

John has a brother, Joseph Nicholas Mainieri, residing in Naples, Florida.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Times Square Church, 450 Howard Blvd., in Mt. Arlington, NJ.  There will be a repass immediately following the service.
