Dover: Arline E. (Hart) Middaugh, 99, of Dover, died peacefully after a long illness on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Regency Grande Nursing Home in Dover.
Born in Dover on March 13, 1919 to her parents, John and Elizabeth Hart, Arline spent the majority of her life living and working in Dover. She shared a birthday with her husband, Charles H. Middaugh, whom she met at just 5 years of age, walking to and from school together. In 1938, they married at Sacred Heart Church.
Arline was an active member of the Columbiettes, volunteered at Sacred Heart School learning center and dedicated the majority of her life caring for her family. She loved music, old movies, and was the happiest when her family was gathered together, to make new and share memories. She used her love and talent of cooking and baking at East Dover School, where she managed the cafeteria until taking an early retirement to help care for her daughter, Kathleen Shukailo, who passed from a long illness in 1991.
Arline and Charles moved from Dover after their daughter’s passing to Effort, Pennsylvania, then to Newton, for a short period before Charles passed on November 29, 2012, days after their 74th wedding anniversary. Arline, then, returned to her hometown, where she was the happiest.
Arline is survived by her son, Charles (and Patricia) of Effort, PA; son-in-law, Stephen Shukailo, grandchildren; Kimberly Iozzi (and Jon); Christine Kocienda (and Mark) and Charles Middaugh (and Kelly), as well as four great-grandchildren, Louis and John Iozzi and Jennifer and Jordan Middaugh.
Visitation will be held 3-5pm on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton. A Funeral Mass will be held 10am on Monday at Sacred Heart Church in Dover. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Arline’s memory, to Sacred Heart Church, 4 Richards Ave, Dover, NJ 07801 would be appreciated.
