Wilmington, NC: Arthur E. Somerville, 95, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 14th in Wilmington, NC.
He was born August 14, 1928, to Arthur and Florence Somerville in Wharton, NJ. He Married Betty Lou Irvine on June 23, 1956.
Art was a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. After graduating from Wharton High School 1n 1946, he joined the US Air Force as an Aircraft and Engine Mechanic. He then worked for Bell Telephone Laboratories and Picatinny Arsenal until he retired in 1986. After retirement he and Betty moved to Florida where Art worked for General Defense Corp., Olin Corp and Valentec Int. Corp., in addition to starting his own Consulting Company, Quality Systems Concepts.
Art was also a volunteer Fireman in Wharton and a NJ State Exempt Fireman, a member of the Masonic Lodge, a member of the American Legion, a high school basketball referee, a little league coach and past president of the Wharton Little League. He was also an avid golfer and sports fan.
Art was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Florence and his sister Joyce Pelka.
He is survived by his wife Betty Somerville of Wilmington, NC, his daughter Cheryl Borer and her husband Bob of Wilmington NC, his son Darren Somerville and his wife Wendy of Roxbury, NJ. His five grandchildren, Kevin Borer, Kim Burghardt, Adam Somerville, Kristen Frisch and Patrick Borer. His 2 great grandchildren, Jaxen Burghardt and Theodore Borer.
Visitation will be held 10 am – 12 pm on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 South Main St, Wharton, NJ. Followed by graveside services at Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover, NJ
